Promotional workshop: Interactive lecture of prof. Jason Laker: “Why should we strive for social inclusion?”
Why is it important to actively work on the topic of social inclusion and equal participation of all young people in the society? What are the benefits of inclusive society for everyone? What is the role of civil society organisations in this area? How can an NGO contribute to social inclusion and equal participation of all young people in the society? And where to start as an organisation or individual that hasn’t been working on this topic beforehand?
At the lecture, Jason Laker, Ph. D., a university professor and pedagogue from the San José State University in California (USA), tried to tackle the importance of common efforts for a more inclusive society and the responsibility, role and power of the civil sector in this process. In the frame of his input he tried to provoke participants and inspire them to join efforts in order to find answers to the above-mentioned questions. While his career has been based in the context of formal higher education, both the work he has done in his various posts and the civic activities in which he engages personally, have focused on many of the same commitments as those of the E+: Youth in Action programme and he resonates strongly with the mission of civic, democratic and cross-cultural efforts to promote inclusion, equity and capacity-building of people and communities.
