Tackling Radicalism through Active Citizenship of Europe in Schools (trACES)

On Tuesday (13 February 2018) we conducted a lecture for pupils with topic of migration and radicalization at the primary school “OŠ Koseze” in Ljubljana. Miha Zimšek and Petra Podobnikar first asked the students about their opinion on migration and the refugee crisis. Then, through the Prezi presentation, they presented some of the dilemmas that young people are seeing in the daily media coverage of the topic. They presented the various migration theories and the differences between refugee status, the migrant and the asylum seeker, and the rights and duties originating from these statuses. The lecturers also presented migration flows and analyzed each of them in detail. During the lecture, the lecturers repeatedly addressed the phenomenon of radicalization and extremism, described the causes of radicalization as well as the complexity of the entire process of radicalization. In addition, they answered the pupils’ questions.
